Twitter DIY – How to Use Twitter More Effectively!
For those of you who want to get the most out of your Twitter, here’s couple tips on “How to use Twitter More Effectively”.
First of all, if you are playing one of those “increase followers” games by using programs to increase the number of followers, you are really cheating yourself.
Think of it this way. If you were twittering to people in real life, would you follow 5,000 people?
No, because you simply don’t have time to follow all of them. If others want to follow you because you are interesting, that’s fine. (and a lot of famous people/celebrities have a ton of followers because of this reason)
But don’t go out there follow-spamming everyone just so they will follow you back. There’s a LOT of people who “mix” this rather cheap technique along with lots of twittering. Well, I just think you are “hyping” up the follower number and you aren’t really using Twitter effectively.
For me, Twitter is a great way to listen to all kinds of conversations only “I” am interested in. I don’t need to listen to Twitter experts out there who claims they are social media experts when in fact, most of them don’t even have a blog.
In fact, I can claim myself as a social media expert because I have been blogging for 3 years with experience in various different social networks and Web 2.0.
Of course, most of those so-called Twitter social media experts have nothing to back themselves up, that’s why they are spamming twitter, trying to sell their crappy marketing program. (Perhaps not ALL marketing programs are bad but 99 of 100 I have seen are.)
Heck, the point is that you should use Twitter so it can help you, not so you can spam everyone and stuff your advertising to their twitter feed.
Trust me, I used to follow like 5,000 people too but after awhile it simply didn’t make sense and Twitter became “useless”.
Recently, I unfollowed about 4,000 people, most of which were spam Twitter robots anyways. Now, I can actually listen to conversations from people I care about and respect.
Well, that’s the beauty of Twitter, you only have to follow the people you want to listen to.
S0 how to use Twitter more effectively?
Well, it all depends on how you want to use it. For me, I have multiple blogs so it makes sense to follow all my own blogs too as I can quickly browse the internet as soon as one of our bloggers post a new blog post. Instead of reading my Google reader or whatnot, the new blog posts simply show up on my Twitter feed, which is so nice. Of course, I do have other bloggers I like to read so they are on my twitter feed.
To use your Twitter more effectively, simply don’t follow another person unless you truly want to listen to their message whether that’s politics, business, or whatever.
Just my 2 cents here, don’t waste your time trying to game systems, you won’t last long.
P.S. Twitter is growing quite fast but the only hurdle I see is them controlling spam Twitters, which probably makes up more than a half of its traffic, really.
