I noticed that SquadHelp has spammed my Whiteboard Idea TRG blog post comments line. Upon closer inspection, I found out SquadHelp is actually a pretty good service for crowdsourcing domain name creating.

With SquadHelp, you can either make cool domain names for contests and win money or even hold your own contests to help your company make a better domain name.

You can actually browser their prizes page where people have been chosen winners. A quick look tells me this crowdsourcing method works rather well, I might try it myself soon for my new web projects. (and I suggest you to try it too.)

You know how hard making great domain names can be, nothing is better than if others do it for you, especially if the “crowd” does it. Of course, one more feature I would like added to SquadHelp is ability for users to vote on the domain names, that way you get great domains and market research all-in-one.

After receiving the Business Filings Division scam last week, these scammers have enough guts to send me ANOTHER one, similar but titled, “Annual Filing Division”.

I am furious that these scammers expect to make money really doing absolutely nothing.

Anyways, watch out for Annual Filing Division.

is actually part of ANOTHER Regus, which provides virtual offices, meaning these scammers are simply using Regus as its viral host to receive and forward its mails. (and checks, a LOT of them I bet)

Clean Dishes, Quality, and What It Means for Businesses!

Today’s subject, is about clean dishes, quality, and what it means for businesses. (or even life in general)

Let me tell you a story of how I became to master the “art” of washing my dishes by hand.

When I was growing up, I always saw my mom clean dishes so perfectly, she would actually rinse the dishes about 3 times before they would shine brightly.

Even now, I am guilty of cleaning my own dishes by hand everyday, I actually kinda enjoy it, sorta my “zen” time where I can “cleanse” my soul during the 20 minutes I wash dishes. Don’t get me wrong, I have a perfectly fine dishwasher which probably does dishes just as well but I like cleaning my dishes.

Let me tell you another story about my dad, who used to wash over 10,000 dishes at his college cafeteria while he was an exchange student in Japan. (back in the 70s)

My dad used to always tell me his story of how hard he worked during college just to pay for living and college expenses as my grandfather couldn’t support my father. Mainly, he worked for the college cafeteria as a dishwasher and also brick-loader for some construction company where he’d load about 20,000 bricks on a daily basis. With the small money he earned, he’d buy just enough food, pay rent, and spend the rest on books. (I remember he used to have a big collection of like 20,000 books that he bought while in Japan when I was growing up with him.)

You know how diamonds are made right? Yes, from a lot of pressure. When you work at something really, really, and really hard, your efforts will turn you into a something awesome. People who work really hard at “whatever” they do seem to succeed at anything life throws at them.

Of course, what the heck does cleaning dishes have to do with everything?

EVERYTHING, I bet a lot of people who are great at creating “quality” businesses are also great at cleaning dishes. Not only clean dishes mean you no longer have dirty dishes left around, it also means you care about things being up to par. (or your level of quality)

Quality stems from everything we do, not just from clean dishes.

For example, back in college, I would ask my roommates to clean the dishes. They would “clean” the dishes but they didn’t rinse them right. (and there would be some leftover food stuck on the dishes) That my friend, is “quality control”.

But I am not the cleanest person in the world either, my desk resembles more of an over-worked, under-paid engineer but I get my dishes done magnificently clean.

Couple years back when I used to be real buff, I was working out really hard at the gym and this young guy asks me, “How do you get so buff?”

I replied, “You do these exercises…etc…etc…”

He says, “You know what I think, it’s just YOU, you just work harder than everyone else here.”

That is probably right, when you work hard enough on what you do, you simply will become great.

Life is simple, stick to your strengths and keep working hard on cleaning your dishes magnificently clean.

Yodle PPC Campaign Review!

Recently, I was helping one of my plumber friends here in San Francisco to help him with PPC campaigns on Adwords. Well, since I don’t have the time to do it myself, I found a great company called Yodle, who was even featured on TechCrunch, supposedly competitor to ReachLocal. (I even tried ReachLocal too, their services are pretty good but very expensive.)

Well, so I thought. So I did a 1 month test with Yodle. Even though they said I need to do a 3 month test, I “negotiated” a 1 month deal because I never want to sign up for anything long term, that’s #1 rule in investing in something you never tried before. Yodle said we needed to do a 3-month test but I think that bs just to get their money’s worth if the campaign doesn’t work out, at least they get paid. This is obviously great insurance for Yodle but bad for business risking their money.

Anyways, our campaign with Yodle was rather disappointing, we got 1 phone call and 2 e-mail leads. Since we spent $800 for the month, that’s about $266.66 per lead.

We did however encounter some problems during the middle of the campaign where communication with my friend and Yodle stopped as my friend left for Philipines during the middle of the month. But the point of this blog post is not about the mis-communication but that we spent $266.66 per lead!!! No matter what, Yodle should have stopped our campaign or at least be responsible for that. There’s simply no excuse to spend that much for a lead.

Now, that said, it still didn’t make sense to me that we spent $800 on 1 phone call. E-mails are not worth as much I think, especially for a plumbing business where deals are settled on the spot after a phone call. E-mails are usually harder as a lot of times, it can simply be the competition trying to mess with you.

Anyways, I think if you have a lot of money to test the waters, Yodle might be worth a test but in my small budget testing, Yodle failed me big time.

I highly regarded Yodle because of their plumber video seen here where Joe the plumber spends $800 and gets a bunch of leads, makes up for more than his initial $800 investment.

Now, we can keep throwing at Yodle for another month to see if it works with more changes but I don’t want to keep risking my friend’s money. If it doesn’t work again, it’s my reputation on the line, not Yodle’s. I want to refer the best services/products in the world to my friends.

Victor, who was our sales manager, did help me greatly and he’s a great guy but I do business based on results, not friendship.

It’s even really hard for me to write a negative review about Yodle because Victor was a very nice guy. But this is what I do – I am a blogger and I blog about what I do.

What I feel my plumber friend deserves?

Let me tell you a story first. I used to work at Comfile Technology where we sold computer chips. I provided the most excellent customer service in the world. I prided myself on going beyond “normalness” to make my customers happy, even if that was working from 6am to midnight to finish some code.

I remember one time a customer accidently “fried” about $1000 worth of computer chips he bought. (It was completely his fault even though he tried to lie to me.)

Since the company had just launched in the U.S., (parent company was in Korea) I simply shipped $1000 worth of computer chips free of charge because I wanted to really show that Comfile Technology cares about its customers. I knew in the long run, the customer would order more computer chips and his “word-of-mouth” would be “viral” and he’d tell all his friends about it.

I was director of Comfile Technology at the time and wanted to do whatever necessary to make customers happy. (and I had the power to do so which was great!)

Most of us simply “work” at a company and do our jobs “normally”. I tended to work “harder” and did literally everything I could to make the customer happy. It’s simply in my nature to do so. A lot of times, I even “fought” my boss for my customers. It was like I worked for my customers, not my boss.

Because of that ethic, I no longer work for someone else and I do still apply that in every part of my own business, keep the customer happy no matter what it takes. That’s how you never lose one single customer. A lot of people focus on frying “that big fish” but it’s a lot of “small guys” that can make you big too.

A lot of salesmen do this but the wrong way. They “sell” first and never following through with world’s best customer service.

My end goal in this blog review is that the CEO/President of Yodle reads this and offer my plumber friend a month of free advertising on them. I know in business, things can be done. If not, my review will stand here and end here.

If companies can really stand behind their products/services, they should go far beyond normal expectations. That will pay dividends in the long run and build a truly everlasting company. If not, you will always be like “everyone” else.

In fact, if Yodle did succeed in bringing more customers with their money for another month, I am sure my plumber friend will pay more money to use Yodle’s services for months to come, and this blog review, well, could ultimately end up as proof that Yodle provides the most excellent customer service in the world instead of ending here. Plus, I have a ton of friends to refer to Yodle but it’s on hold now.

My challenge to Yodle?

If you can stand by your products, I am giving you a chance to redeem yourself. Why spend thousands of dollar on marketing when you can make a case study out of this and prove you are indeed who you are? I don’t ever do this, it usually ends here.

QuickPayPro a Scam? – FRAUD ALERT!

UPDATE: I have finally got my refund! I still think you need someone to pick up the phone though.

Try UltraCart instead, I think it’s a great shopping cart with real human support and they support recurring billing/1-click upsells.

I’ve recently signed up for QuickPayPro’s 30-day trial, you still have to pay $99 to try it. Well, they have a pretty good product except it’s not simply for me, I’ve gone instead with UltraCart, which has the exact features I need.

Anyways, I’ve tried emailing the QuickPayPro people, I’ve tried calling them about 5 times now since last Monday (I get a voicemail on either of their customer service, sales, and billing department.), AND I’ve even opened a support ticket.

It’s been almost 2 weeks signed up and I am trying to get it canceled so my credit card doesn’t get charged next month and I will get a full refund.

One of the most important things I judge companies/products by is the way they handle returns/refunds. In this case, QuickPayPro has failed me, the customer shouldn’t have to call more than once to get his issues resolved, especially if they offer a 30-day money back guarantee. The only thing I can think of is that EVERYONE has took off for summer vacation since 2 weeks ago. Even then, they should set up a call center to pick up the phone.

If I don’t get a call by tomorrow, I will be calling my credit card company, which I hope won’t happen.

By the way, I’d highly avoid using QuickPayPro, it’s obviously a scam if there’s no one answering their phones when their website clearly says they are open Monday through Friday.

I should have an update on this blog post. Either way, QuickPayPro seems like a big scam. How do they think they will keep going like this? I am sure there’s other customers out there who are experiencing the same things.

This isn’t a hate blog post, I have nothing against QuickPayPro.com, I am being completely honest here that there’s “no one” answering e-mails nor phone calls at that company. (FOR 2 WEEKS!!!)

I just wanted to get the word out so people won’t have to be in the same situation I am right now. This is worst then those credit card insurance scams, at least those guys pick up the phone.

#1 rule in business, “your customers are always right and your customers are always #1.”

Long time ago, I released my Adsense optimized heatmap for increasing your CTR (Clik Through Rate).

Well, I have some more great news for you, I have further optimized my Adsense ads and here’s bunch of quick tips that will help you make more money with Adsense, all the while making your regular visitors happier.

Don’t put ads on your homepage and index pages. These are the main pages of your blog, particularly those from index.php. The reason is that the homepage of your blog isn’t “targetted” content since you might have more than 1 blog post in the same page. Thus, your Adsense ads won’t be as relevant so your CTR will be a lot lower than your single pages. (single.php) I’ve started removing all ads from the homepage and has increased my overall CTR and CPM. Plus, another great benefit for you is that site visitors in general don’t like a website cluttered with ads.Furthermore, you don’t want your first-time visitors to click away from the homepage, you want them to stay longer. By having zero ads on the homepage, you guarantee that the first-time readers will at least click once within your site to an interesting blog post they like.
Put your ads on single pages. These are the pages that receive most of your Google organic traffic. The single pages are highly targetted because they contain one blog post.
Test the different Adsense ads provided in my Adsense heat map and take out any ads that don’t perform. As a general rule of thumb, I remove any Adsense ads that do less than 1% CTR. I rather put another affiliate banner or private ads in those less performing spots. You want to increase your overall CTR, that makes your site more valuable for advertisers on Google. This is simply common sense. If you were an advertiser, you would want to advertise on ad placements that get most attention and most clicks. Even me, if I want to sell an affiliate product, I place it where it gets the most attention/CTR, not bottom-right sidebar banner that no one will look at.

For now, that’s the 3 tips that can change your Adsense earning as much as whopping 25% based on my testing. Results may vary but if you keep testing, you won’t regret any positive results you get while you can always go back to your old format if it doesn’t work out.

You don’t make more money because you bring more traffic, you make more money by bringing in higher “quality” traffic. The only way you can prove that to Google Adsense and advertisers is to optimize your ads and improve your overall CTR.

The “Secret” to Making Money Blogging!

As I have said many times before, “quantity” can become your best friend when you are trying to make money blogging.

When I first started blogging, I did about 30+ blog posts per day. Each of those blog posts weren’t long but surely they were a LOT of blog posts.

I tend to emphasize the fact that you need to do a lot of blog posts in order to make money blogging.

A lot of experts will tell you that you don’t need to even blog at all and you can “outsource” these tedius tasks and you need to focus on the big picture. (when in reality, the opposite is true)

Well, let me tell you straight in your face today that would only be true if you already had about $20,000 to invest for the next year or so.

The other option that you have is that you can do these blog posts yourself and save yourself about $20,000 of work.

So how many blog posts do you need to do a day to be profitable?

If my life depended on it, (which it is), I would start doing at least 30 blog posts per day. Actually, I copied this idea from Phillip Torrone at Make Magazine blog. He used to do about 30 blog posts per day and he’s the very first blogger I saw/admired so I simply copied his work habits. Yes, talk about finding the right person to copy, hahaha. (Back then, I thought that was the ONLY way!)

Really, if you want to make money with blogging or any other business, you really need to put your life as guarantee, otherwise you will probably waste away your efforts.

There’s a saying that might inspire you, “If you don’t risk anything, you gain nothing. If you gain nothing, you have risked EVERYTHING.”

“If you risk EVERYTHING, at least you will gain nothing and more…”

WHY 30 MOTHE*FREAKIN BLOG POSTS PER DAY!?! ARE YOU FU**ING CRAZY?

A lot of times, I get this type of response from most of my visitors. And yes, you must be crazy about blogging in order to be successful at it.

If you don’t want to be that crazy about blogging and make a living from it, I suggest you to find a JOB like 99% of the population. Trust me, getting a job is helluva easier than trying to make a living on your own.

And yes, sometimes I do like 100 blog posts over a weekend if I need to catch up. No kidding, I have witnesses!

Anyways, let me just tell you the real “secret” why 30 blog posts per day makes sense.

If you do 1 blog post per day for 365 days a year, that’s 365 blog posts you do in 1 year.

Now, if you do 30 blog posts per day for 365 days a year, that’s 10,950 blog posts in 1 year.

That’s again, 365 blog posts for the lazy guy and 10,950 blog posts for the crazy guy.

Who would you rather be?

The answer to blogging, golf, and life is simple, if you try harder than someone next to you and do way more, you will always win.

Think of it this way, when you do 30 blog posts per day instead of just doing 1, you are essentially doing the work of 30 people.

That’s right, every human being in this world has the potential to do as much work as 30 lazy people, now THAT is pure effort and power of one human being. That is what I am talking about, the pure hard work that will turn YOU into an AWESOME blogger!

Don’t go search on the internet on “how to make money blogging” and spend $500 on worthless material that’s just going to get you confused.

All you need to do to start making money blogging is to start blogging NOW!

This very second, you must choose to do 30 blog posts per day for the next 365 days on your favorite topic.

If you do this for at least 2 years, I guarantee you that you will make enough money online to make a living.

I am dead serious here, if you simply blog more than anyone else you know, you will make money blogging.

DECIDE RIGHT NOW YOU WILL BECOME THE MASTER OF YOUR OWN LIFE BY WORKING VERY VERY HARD EVERYDAY! THE CHOICE IS YOURS…

P.S. You don’t have to do 30 blog post per day forever, just until you can be profitable enough so you can re-invest your profits into the business.

One thing I see common among successful internet marketers, “they all work harder than everyone else, or at least in their mind they do….”. I didn’t say working harder meant long hours, it just means you will do whatever it takes to achieve your goals whether that means blogging in your toilet or simply knowing all the “shortcuts”.

The “Secret” to Making Money Blogging!

Pre-selling is Everything!

I am currently attending the Opportunity.com class by John Reese. I first heard about John Reese when he launched BlogRush.com. Of course, being the person I am, I criticized his BlogRush a lot and I feel bad for that since I didn’t really know who he was. (My sincere apologies for any harm my aggressive blog posts on your past business, didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings. Hope we can start over from ground zero.)

Anyways, to make the story short, one of the things I learned from his online course is “pre-selling”.

It’s not something new for me as I have been “pre-selling” a lot of Amazon products I recommend over at Zedomax.com for my tech readers.

But I do realize the “importance” of that and pre-selling may be one of the most important keys to selling affiliates products on your blog.

Why Pre-sell?

Pre-selling is basically getting the user to buy the product in his/her mind before he really even buys. So by the time the user gets to the actual buy now page, he/she is already ready with credit card in hand to buy.

Now, pre-sell can be deceptive or even simply dishonest. (Which I see in most e-book 1-page marketing websites. They simply look too “cheap” if you know what I mean. There’s got to be another way internet marketers got to approach this…)

What I am talking about it the opposite, pre-selling with your honest personal experiences or any facts you can back up without hyping up whatever you are trying to sell.

Even my last blog post mentions how I will be offering a new book for people who are new to the blog market and want to make a living. That is an honest pre-sell of my product and I did it without even knowing or unconsciously.

Those are the pre-sell blog posts that will “sell” whether you are selling a product off Amazon or Commission Junction.

I think the next step is for probloggers is to focus on stable Adsense and focus on building affiliate income.

Of course, affiliate marketing has never been my expertise but I have been steadily making progress with Amazon and Commission Junction.

Anyways, that’s just my thought for the day after writing couple more chapters of my new book.

The new book will only be available as a physical book. I really want to write a book on blogging that will allow people to learn to make money blogging whether they read it in year 2009 or even year 2019.

A lot of E-books have big problems these days as the information they offer are either outdated/short-lived or simply not really the “right” way.

Well, enough about my life, please leave any “honest” comments on what you think of what I think. LMAO.

Pre-selling is Everything!

How to Run a Blog Network!

As you probably well know, I run a network of blogs, hence my company’s name even includes “Network”, Zedomax Network LLC.

Running a blog network isn’t as hard as you think but most importantly, it takes time to grow your blog network.

Today, I will reveal the secrets behind running a blog network, it’s like running a basketball team.

Like a basketball team, a blog network “scores” points not with 1 player but with multiple players. Some of your players might be MVPs and the others might just help that MVP to score well in a game. Whatever the strength of each player (or each blog), at the end of the day, it’s “whole” team that scores points, not just 1 player(or 1 blog).

Why did I start a blog network?

Unlike some of the more successful single blogs out there, I felt that it was a smarter idea to not put all your eggs in one basket(or one blog). My earlier predictions have paid off though, now most of money comes from a network of blogs.

The one single lesson I’ve learned over the years running a network of blogs is that some days, your poor players might step up and make bunch of shots while your MVP has a bad day. Over the long run, it’s your smaller “niche” blogs that will help your overall revenue, not your MVP blogs.

In other words, you can hit jackpot with your less-popular blogs on certain days while your more-popular blogs will keep your earnings stable.

If you only had 1 blog, you will live and die with 1 sword. That is great if you succeed but if you fail, you don’t have much else to rely on.

Much like basketball or even a portfolio of stocks, you want to diversify your investments, you never know that small investment in a no-name company might pay off 30X one day.

How to Run a Blog Network

You cannot simply start 30 blogs and expect you will make money from your new blog network after 2 years. It’s simply not that easy.

For starters, you want to actually start with 1 blog. When you can get 1 blog to become popular, you start adding more to it.

If you look at even the most popular blogs in the world like BoingBoing and TechCrunch, they are too, starting to diversify their investments, adding new blogs to their existing network as their main blog becomes more popular.

Likewise, if you want to start a blog network, focus on that one blog that you have high expertise and knowledge/passion. For me, that blog was Zedomax.com, it’s still the main blog that brings in the most revenue and its growth is the strongest.

Now, this is simply common sense but you want to diversify and make more “niche” blogs, sometimes it’s the blogs that only get 1,000 uniques per day but make as much money as the blog that gets 10K uniques per day.

With that said, I hope these “secrets” help you in building your own blog network.

How to Run a Blog Network!

Blogging is a Recession-Proof Business!

As I have previously said before, blogging is one of the “best” recession-proof businesses in the world.

Although the nature of blogging itself is new, blogging is truly a recession-proof business.

Why?

Well, during recession, people tend to buy stuff less, or at least buy them cheaper. (which makes them search online more and also click on more ads.)

Plus, more retailers start advertising more online, simply because it’s cheaper and more efficient advertising model.

How can this make your blog make more money?

Well, for one, if you have Adsense ads on your blog, you will benefit greatly from those traditional retailers bidding on your Adsense ads.

Hopefully, blogging will always be a recession-proof business. It’s a minimal investment compared to any other businesses out there, your overhead is minimal too since all you need is content and money to pay for your servers.

Of course, not everyone who blogs will make money online. There’s unwritten rules and know-how you will simply have to learn through trial-and-error. THAT is probably the real secret and NO ONE is out there to tell you exactly how to do that. (Yes, you can buy that $400 E-book on how to be a millionaire but e-books get old fast, information moves so fast, you need to actually be on top of it through experience, not just books.)

All I can tell you right now is that this is probably the best time to start a blog. Invest that $3000 for the next whole year on a new blog, just to test the waters.

Well, I don’t really want to go back to 4th grade American history and tell you everything you probably know but “blogging is about freedom of speech”. Which means that whatever you write, and if you are truly an independent blogger, will be without no regard for what other people think, just so long as you are honest and you are right.

Why?

That’s what the good bloggers do. Look at Michael Arrington of TechCrunch.com, he will get into all sorts of lawsuit battles to just protect his guard, look at Pete Cashmere of Mashable.com, he’s always on top of the “big” news, look at John Chow, he can bring more money to a blog with his daily, super-normal life, look at Shoemoney big Adsense check, it’s probably the best Adsense inspiration ever, look at Nick Denton of ValleyWag.com (the blog I can see his talents) and the founder of Gawker Media, one of the biggest independent blog networks out there (if not the biggest), …

these are the people “I” look up to. People who have something to say, they are the leaders, founders, and protectors of “Freedom of Speech“.

Even if they are wrong, I can respect people like that because they know “how to succeed”.

Obama, is one of them too, a Web 2.0 evangelist, someone who can politically take us to Web 3.0 and beyond.

Well, if I am wrong, please correct my Web 2.0 Heroes, which you probably can’t unless you are already censoring your own blog posts.

Well, I just let out the secret to internet marketing, watching these guys grow and learning from what they do…

Feedburner now moving to Feedburner.Google.Com

Feedburner, which was acquired by Google last year, is officially transferring its system to Feedburner.Google.Com.

If you log in to your Feedburner account, you will notice that you can “move” all your feeds to Google.com.

I believe this is due to the enhanced features Google is adding and also to automate adding Adsense ads to your feeds. (which is a LOT of money for Google, advertisers, and publishers)

Before, I know Feedburner was buggy and although Adsense feature was there, it never worked for me for some reason.

G.I.M. 101 – Learn to Not Follow Instructions!

Okay, today’s GIM 101 lesson is:

Learn to NOT follow directions or instructions of any sort.

What do I mean?

Well, to be a good internet marketer, you need to stop listening to instructions from other people and try out things yourself.

I can tell you that I am very bad at following any type of directions, instructions, or any type of order and law.

It can be a good thing because you learn to do things using your subconscious mind instead of relying on a piece of paper or anything else. It will help you to develop those creative skills that your right side of your brain needs.

You can bet that when I buy something from IKEA, the first thing that I do is build the furniture, not look at some piece of paper. (Yes, you can become smarter this way.)

Let’s take school for an example.

For those people who graduate at the top of the class and gets all As, are the people who are most likely working for another person who may have had average grades but possesses about 5-10 times more “street smarts” or “business smarts”.

I know a lot more people who have accomplished more things such as creating and running their own business because they have the “guts”, not just the “mind”.

Of course, if gettings As in school wasn’t too much work for you, that is good. All I am saying is that people who do well in school are great at following directions and business is completely the opposite.

You need to “create” directions, not follow them.

You need to be a leader, not a follower.

If you do exactly the same things your fellow competitors are doing, you will be as successful as them at most, never exceeding your true potential.

Take the world by its long horns and ride it. Don’t let the world ride you.

There’s literally millions of people with MBAs who work for millionaires with a business mind who might not even have a college degree.

On the other hand, there’s millions of business owners who make a lot more money than people with MBAs.

Are you still working for someone and slaving your precious 9 to 5pm time?

Well, it’s time for you to do something about it, go ahead and create your own world whether that’s a new blogging business, Pizza Hut franchise, or whatever.

Don’t let comfort and stableness of you job let you stay in the cubicle any longer.

It’s time for you to live, living on the edge is a lot more fun than living in a cubicle.

My advice for the day:

“You should always jump off a high-rise building every once in awhile and know that you will be okay even if you hit rock bottom.”

On the other hand, if you cannot jump, you might be safe but you are stuck forever, whereever you are, and that might just be an office desk with a nicely-themed cubicle.

Hey, I jumped off buildings couple times now (metaphorically here) and it feels “good” to say goodbye to a cubicle and lousy bossies forever.

Go ahead, create your new future plans and give that middle finger to your old life that you always wanted to do anyways.

Ads versus No Ads?

One of the most important question you need to ask yourself when trying to make money blogging is, “Ads or no Ads?”

To really maximize income, you might need to consider putting a ton of ads, whether that’s Adsense or Chitika.

I know, I know, the so-called “readers” will be drawn away if you have too many ads.

But here’s the fact of life and blogs in general:

99% of people who visit your blog will never come back anyways. Why not build your web traffic and put a ton of ads instead of focusing on RSS subscribers who won’t read the ads anyways?

I get this ALL the time, people tell me that my sites have way too many ads. Most of the time, the people that tell me that I have too many ads are the ones who are bypassers anyways. (I don’t know why they are complaining!)

Let me ask you a question, “Does TV have too many ads?”

Well, if you are in the U.S., you KNOW there’s way too many ads, almost every 10 minutes.

Now, apply THAT TV advertising concept to your blog. Put that ad before the content so people actually read the ad! If you put an ad where people will not likely to scroll to, that’s almost as good as having no ads. You might as well put no ads so you keep your 1 reader happy.

Of course, if you are getting millions of unique visitors per day, things are going to be a little different. But for the rest of us who NEED to make a living online, not just HOPING, you need to put the ads where people can see them, as simple as that.

Well, I am just trying to make sense out of all the people who say you need to not fill your blog with ads.

They are completely wrong!

But the fact of life is, you need to fill your blog with ads unless you are already rich and famous.

Consider this blog itself, there’s enough ads for people to read.

Of course, if you have a blog about art, this might be a little different, we will have to get into that another time.

Blog Training?

Well, I just joined a new gym lately and had one of those free personal training sessions today.

Although I have had many personal training at the gym before, I again realized how having another expert helping you work out has multiple benefits.

1. Personal trainers will take you to your “maximum” limit, meaning they will simply make you work out harder until you are ready to give up.

2. They can efficiently utilize time to give you maximum workout for what it’s worth.

Like personal training, I’ve decided to offer my blog training for blogger newbies out there.

The point is that you can blog by yourself, learn everything from the bottom by trial and error.

By having me as your blog trainer, I can make your same efforts make more money and bring more web traffic.

Anyways, I haven’t decided on how I will do this yet, but you know where to reach me if you want to be on the priority list for the new Zedomax blog training.

I will have some more updates in the next week or so.

Well, I had the pleasure of getting a free review copy from Ant Onaf on his new “Having Sex with Google Adwords” e-book. It’s a pretty short 5-page PDF but it could definitely save you a whole lot more money if you are doing Adwords campaigns for your affiliate programs and whatnot.

What Is “Search”?

Okay, here’s chapter 2 of my new book, “Search”, right here on this blog.

Today’s topic is, “What is Search?”

Now, people just normally think of “search” as something they want and that’s exactly what it is, “What you REALLY want”.

I am sure a lot of you have gone to Home Depot to look for that small hardware part for your home.

Let’s say you go to Home Depot and look for that special pipe adaptor for your kitchen plumbing.

You get to Home Depot and since your are a “Do-It-Yourselfer”-type, you decide to look for it in the plumbing section. After looking through every small pipe in the plumbing department for half an hour, you finally decide to ask one of Home Depot workers where you can find that certain pipe adaptor for your kitchen.

The worker replies, “Oh, that’s right there by your foot.”

Think of how much time you could have saved if you asked one of those workers as soon as you stepped into Home Depot.

In comparison, a search engine is nothing but a Home Depot employee who knows where everything is.

You, on the other hand, is of course the “searcher”.

THAT is “search” and WHAT it does for people and WHY people use it a LOT.

Now, think of internet marketing. Do you think focusing on “search” will make you more money?

Hell yes, whether you run an e-store, blog, or any other website, letting people “search” on your site is like having one of your employees being there to help your users find what they “want”.

How do I apply this?

Do you see the big search bar on this blog? It’s not there just for fun, it’s there to “help” people find what they want if they want to save time or simply can’t find what they want by browsing.

I am sure you can find a way to apply this “search” focused theme to your website.

What Is “Search”?

G.I.M 101 – Get Vertical!

Well, the other day, I made the world’s very first, ever vertical search engine called, AhZing. It took me about 2 hours of javascript coding as our current browsers don’t support vertical typing. (This idea might work wonders in countries like Korea, Japan, and China where written language has originally been written top to bottom, right to left. It wasn’t until Westerner influence that those Asian languages became left-to-right and top-to-bottom. In Korea, where I was born, they have original artifacts of Korean written language written top to bottom. )

I didn’t really make this site for profit but as a showcase site for my new book called, “Search”, which I am in the process of writing explaining why “search” is important in today’s world and why it’s “everything”.

Today’s GIM lesson is, “GET VERTICAL!”

What does that mean?

Well, whatever you are doing whether that’s running an e-store, blogging, etc…etc…, I want you to take your website and turn it sideways. (Get vertical)

Why?

Sometimes, you really need to take your whole web business and turn it 90 degrees counter-clockwise and that might just make your mediocre business into a successful one.

I can testify to this as I have gotten “vertical” many times during my experiences as an internet marketer. If I didn’t, I’d be working for some Joe Schmoe at the local BigFatCompany.

Okay, but don’t take this literally, I just wanted to get the point across. The important thing you should take from this blog post is to try bunch of new ideas whether that’s putting a big banner on top of your content, drastically taking out all outgoing links on your homepage, or whatever.

If you are in web business, you NEED to get vertical, try radically different approaches and see which ones work and which ones don’t. Besides, it’s cool to get vertical.

If you don’t believe me, check out all these wiki sites I made that didn’t make a dime. (At the time, I thought these were an incredible business models, boy was I wrong! Those failures really allowed me to try even more radical ones.)

Now I’ve realized that it’s not really putting all your heart into one website in order to be successful.

In order to build a successful web site, you need to experience different types of internet marketing by creating a whole slew of them. If you aren’t making new sites every week, you are probably not going to succeed and better off finding a job at a big corporation.

Over the years, I’ve become expert in not just blogging, I’ve also become a code-expert on PHP, CSS, Wikis, Java, AJAX, Javascript, and Photoshop to just name a few.

It’s the process of “never ending creations” that will make you money online and keep you growing.

If your blog isn’t making money after 6 months, it’s probably time for you to get a different career or make a new blog.

Then again, there are people who make blogs for hobby and diary, that’s good, I am only referring to those who “want to make a living online”.

I’ve created and killed about 100 websites within the last 2 years. Some of them make money, some of them are simply so bad and they must be “killed”.

Eventually, you will come up with a great site, if you need inspiration, just look at Thomas Edison.

G.I.M 101 – Get Vertical!

NetKlix Needs Better Ads…

As I promised, I did try out NetKlix but with some huge disappointments.

My average CTR was only 0.109%, probably worst than any of my Google Adsense ads.

I think the problem lies in their ad serving engine, it doesn’t display relevant ads. (the categories I picked were in tech sector yet I see bunch of unrelated “make money online” ads displaying)

And also be aware, NetKlix doesn’t pay you until your ad is approved. I gave them about 10K impressions the first day and since my ads weren’t approved, I didn’t get any money on the clicks for the first day.

Here’s the customer response I got:

You are correct no traffic is recorded until all Sites have been reviewed and approved.

I am kinda furious to why this isn’t stated before I put the ads up. Basically I gave them free money. It should be the other way around.

I feel this is very unfair as no one does this including Adsense, Chitika, or any fair ad program I have used.

Of course, NetKlix does have some promising future if they can correct the problems I’ve outlined here, mainly:

1. You need to pay publishers for displaying NetKlix ads from the moment they sign up or at least have a BIG NOTE to not put your ads up until they have been approved.

2. More relevant ads, NetKlix needs to cut all the “make money online” ads unless the publisher chooses that topic. (I felt the ads were more like “spam” than ads.)

For now, I will have to stop using NetKlix, I simply see no advantages of using them over hundreds of other PPC programs out there. If you really want to use them, my advice is to wait another 6 months or so until they have more advertisers. At this point, it seems the main problem is their “quality” of advertisers.

G.I.M. 101 – How to Sell Private CPM-based Ads Using Google Ad Manager!

Here’s the first lesson in what I think is going to be a whole series of G.I.M. (Guerilla Internet Marketing).

A lot of small to medium sized bloggers sell private ads based on fixed, monthly rate and that’s good if you are selling them on a consistent basis but let me show you how you can sell private CPM-based ads using Google Ad Manager and make more money.

Why CPM-based private ads?

Well, as a publisher(blogger), you need to maximize income while providing a clear, definite way for advertisers to maximize their advertising money.

If you take a look at Federated Media, these guys are basically selling blog ad spaces based on CPM.

Now, clearly, you will make more money by providing advertisers CPM-based rates while the advertisers only pay for your blog’s performance or number of impressions.

The most important question is now, “How do you setup a CPM-based advertising on your blog?”

Well, it’s a good thing Google has made Google Ad Manager available just in time, FREE and many customizable options such as providing your advertisers “geo-targetted” ads, CPC/CPM, and lots more.

By “geo-targetted”, I mean that if you use Google Ad Manager, you can control which “countries” your advertiser’s ad will show up.

How cool is that?

Well, before you get too excited, let me walk you through the Google Ad Manager setup.

First, you will need to sign up for an account here.

1) Go Click on Inventory tab, and click on “New Ad Slot”.

2) Fill in your Ad slot name, determine the size of your ad, fill in the description if you want to, then hit “Save” at the bottom.

3) Once you have a new ad slot, you will need to create a new Placement. Click on “New Placement”.

4) Name your Placement, Click on “Add” for the Ad Slot you made in step 1-2, then hit “Save”.

5) You can skip Targeting for now, Click on “Ad Products” tab, then Click on “New Ad Product“.

6) Name your Ad Product, select “Premium”, select CPM, set your rate card/minimum (this is your rate per CPM or 1000 impressions), click on “Add” for your Ad Slot, then hit “Save“.

7) Now, you are pretty much ready, but you will need to place some javascript codes in your blog so your ads will show up. Go to Inventory->Ad Slots and click on “Generate Sample HTML“.

Click on “Add”.

9) Hit “Generate Sample HTML”.

Now, there’s 2 different codes, one for your HTML tag and one for where the ad actually goes.

So copy the head section code into your blog’s header file, header.php for Wordpress.

Copy the ad code at the section of your blog where you’d like it to appear.

10) Now, let’s test out our new CPM beast, go to Orders and click on “New Order“.

11) Fill out an order name, pick “Unlimited” for end date, make a test company for Advertiser, then hit “Save“.

12) Now you need to click on “New line item“.

13) Click on “Add” for your Ad Slot then hit “Save“.

14) For delivery options, you can set Delivery rate as “As fast as possible“, Creative rotation as “Even“, then hit “Save“.

Of course, you can also set “Frequency cap” if you want to limit impression per ad per user but for our testing, we will do it like this.

15) Now, check the Test Order line item and click “Appove“.

16) Once you approve an order, you will need to click on “Needs Creatives” so you can upload your sample ad.

17) Select your appropriate Ad slot size, select Creative type as “Standard image hosted“, find your sample Image File on your computer, set the Click-through URL to where you want the ad to click through, then hit “Save“.

18) Now, you need to click on “Activate this line item” so your ad will go live.

19) Now, you will have to wait about 5-10 minutes before the ad shows up on your site.

You can preview what it will look like by clicking on “Preview Creative” as shown below:

20) There, I just told you how you can setup your blog so you can sell CPM, geo-targetted ads.

More advantages explained

You will notice that now all your private ads using Google Ad Manager will be javascript so you don’t have to worry about any PageRank loss or stuff like that.

One of the things I do is take the successful blogs’ models and apply it to my blogs. In this case, you will be able to sell ads based on CPM, just like the bigger blogs using Federated Media.

Basically, you now know how to apply power of Federated Media into your blogs by using free Google Ad Manager.

How cool is that?

Now, go on ahead and setup your blogs and start advertising your CPM-based, geo-targetted ads using Google Ad Manager.

There’s still a lot of things to play with such as stats and whatnot, I will have to cover that next time.

This is the simple and clear way to maximize your private ad spaces. No more selling fixed, monthly private ad spaces, that’s simply dumb if you know how to do this.

A lot of “big” companies will look for ads based on CPM, not monthly rates, and if you have this setup, I am sure they will come to you.

G.I.M. is an acronym for Guerilla Internet Marketing that I made up the other day in my kitchen. You probably noticed that I’ve changed the blog headline to “Insider Guerilla Internet Marketing”.

What I’ve realized over the years is that everything (including tools, ideas, Web 2.0 marketing) can be summed into 3 words, “Guerilla Internet Marketing”.

Now, what do these 3 words mean?

Guerilla – Highly Effective Strategies of 1 Human Being – For comparison, think of the movie Rambo, where Rambo takes on thousands of Vietnamese soldiers. In today’s internet marketing, you need to be able to do a lot of stuff as 1 human being whether that’s designing, programming, blogging, or whatever. Of course, you can outsource some of these tasks but you have to be able to manage them all and understand every and each part.

I’ve seen 1-man Web 2.0 companies make millions of dollars while start-up companies with millions of dollars in VC funding go bankrupt in less than 1 year.

Think of what can happen if you got 3 GIM experts together to build a new company, the result is probably going to be awesome.

Guerilla is the way, any other way would be too easy. Anyone can turn millions of dollars into a profitable business but the real skill lies in those who can turn paper into hard cold cash.

Internet – The Big Pie – Internet is growing every year regardless of how U.S. or World economy is doing. This can be attributed to the fact that there’s more information added daily while the young babies are growing up with keyboard in their hands, adding massive amount of new users.

If you can take just 0.000001% of that pie, you’d easily be a multi-millionaire.

Marketing – Online marketing can be summed into these 3 words, “Online Brand Marketing“. If you can market your brand, you will be very successful. If you don’t believe me, look at Google, they have a big brand and a big search bar, that’s their main online brand marketing apart from all the other services they provide.

Why Guerilla Internet Marketing?

Well, to put it in simple words, you can get a lot more stuff done for a lot less money.

When you are spending $10 to design/program/advertise your site instead of $10,000, you are using highly effective strategies to market your website.

I simply ended up focusing on this G.I.M. method all of my internet life, simply do to the fact that my boss at my former work didn’t want to spend more than $50 on web hosting and domain name. I went onto make my own domain name and even paid for server fees for the company’s new blog. The rest is history. Of course, everything I do is still work under continuous cycle of improvements.

A Web 2.0+ site is all about a never-ending cycle of improvements, content, and promotion.

With this new Guerilla Internet Marketing, you can bend the web at your will, let the money flow while you are sleeping, build new blogs/e-stores/websites in couple hours, not months and kill big old companies with snap of your fingers. How cool is that?

Business is About Trust.

A lot of people say that business is about trust. I have to agree that business is pretty much only and really about trust between two parties.

The same goes for any internet web business whether you are making $50K/month on Adsense or whatever, it’s the trust you build with your partners, clients, and customers.

Trust is like that flying carpet that will catch you when you fall off the building.

Apart from money, if you don’t have trust from your fellow blogger and customers, you will not be able to succeed in long term. Of course, you might be able to make a quick buck and jet off to some tropical island, but that’s probably going to be the end of your internet marketing career.

I have many friends who are in high places in business including a lot of my family and cousins. They all do their business on one thing and one thing only, trust.

I am glad to say that most of my friends are people I can trust. They are the ones that will bail you out when you are at the lowest of the low, penniless and about to hit the streets.

In Asia, and especially Korea where I grew up until I was 9 years old, there’s a big thing with trust. Trust is the only thing that matters. You can be the smartest guy in the world but if people can’t trust you, they will not do business with you or even think of you as a decent human being.

As such, I highly suggest you to do business with people you trust, not people who will burn the bridges, fork a knife on your back, etc…etc…

You should ask yourself this question, do you trust the people you work with?

If not, you are probably in the wrong job, business, and should find something better to do with people you can trust.

In my web business, I never do any business with anyone I can’t trust. Even my publishers, affiliates, and companies that I work with, are everyone I trust.

Trust can come easily but maintaining it is the hard part. If you can build a long-term relationship (at least 2+ years) with other bloggers/businessmen, you will always have someone to help you out in the hard-times.

Good Drug dealers know who to trust.

I know “good” drug dealers (who never get caught) are good at this as a lot of my college friends did some slanging back in college.

I watched them and thought, “Wow, these guys know what they are doing… they never get caught.”.

The one thing I noticed about my friends was that they never sold anything to anyone they didn’t know and everything was through best friend’s referrals. (sorta like today’s affiliate programs)

Heck, I know they were good because although they are not selling schmooze anymore, they all are doing well and have never been caught.

I took that experience of watching my roommates as a life-long experience and today, I never buy or sell anything with anyone I cannot trust.

New Adsense and Chitika Optimization Heat Map Version 2!

As you know, I did provide my high CTR, high EPC heat map for integrating Adsense and Chitika into your blog/website. Well, after much thought, I have actually removed half of my main ads while increasing CTR and EPC altogether.

So without delay, here’s the new simplified version of the heat map that will make you more money, while keeping it simpler and not so annoying to your readers with bombarded Adsense ads:

Now, you will notice that the right portion is empty on the top Google Adsense and the bottom too.

Please note that, this is actually the right way, you don’t want to put your ads in the center or to the right.

99% of people tend to read left-to-right, top-to-bottom, the best Adsense placements are always going to be near your top-left of the blog/website.

From design standpoint, having the empty space might feel like you need to add something. (Well, you can, just don’t bombarded with TWO Adsense ads, maybe affiliate ads might do good)

But with this new heatmap, my CTR and EPC has been going up because now people are bidding on less space for more money. (Less Supply + More Demand = Higher CTR and EPC)

Now, I have heard that CTR isn’t directly correlated with EPC and that’s true BUT you have to remember the simply economy of “Supply & Demand“, which is a major part of how Adsense and Adwords market work.

The greatest part about this setup is that it makes the reader “focus” on just one Adsense ad without being confused with content. After that, they can read all the content but the most important part is that we’ve eliminated bombarded ads with simple, more effective Adsense ads that’s going to be more friendly to your readers/visitors while increasing your CTR and EPC.

Proposition 8 Web Traffic!

Well, in the light of political voting all around the country today, we will be going over the Proposition 8, which has been causing a quite a stir among the advertisers online.

First, we will look at the 2 main sites, one which supports Prop 8 and the other one that doesn’t.

http://www.noonprop8.com – No On Prop 8 is a site that features California politicians such as Senator Diane Feinstein claiming that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional and about discrimination.

http://www.protectmarriage.com – Protect Marriage is a site that doesn’t feature any politicians and claims that this Proposition will “protect” people’s marriages. Speaking of, our marriages aren’t protected enough already? I don’t think there’s any more things to “protect”.

Anyways, I don’t want to get involved in the politics here, just the web traffic.

As far as web traffic, I think ProtectMarriage.com is doing really well due to the fact that they spent a LOT of money on Google AdWords ads, I’ve seen a slew of them on my site as of yesterday.

Will that be a factor in people’s votes for Prop 8?

Well, to a certain extent yes, but it’s really going to be up to the voters who have to be educated enough to make their own decision.

In my opinion, Prop 8 does look like a completely targetted bomb towards California’s recent legalization of gay marriage. I think it will be very unfair for those people who have been fighting for their rights, only to be anulled by some new Federal law.

Am I educated enough? I think so, I live in a very diverse community of Asian, White, Black, and Gay people and I know how each of those groups are like and many of my friends are spread among different races, even redneck people. Yes, I do believe San Francisco is slightly ahead of rest of the U.S. as far as cultural diversity is concerned. People are more about who’s better, not what color or sexual orientation someone is.

If San Franciscans or Californians were still stuck behind the discrimination curtain, we wouldn’t be the #2 greenest city in the world or the fact that people all over the world “flock” to this small, peninsula city.

I also do feel New York is sorta similar on the East Coast. As far as the “rest” of the U.S., I think we still need to go over 4th grade history class couple more times on Constitutional rights. Okay, that’s far-fetched idea for those of you who are still not “diverse”.

How about ProtectGayMarriage.com?

I think this has absolutely everything to do with civil rights movement and the decision to voting against gay marriage will have a devastating effects on some gay people who are already married. Not that I care that much, that’s why I’d vote against anything unconstitutional.

You don’t have to be gay to protect people’s rights. You are one of the people too. Vote No on Prop 8, it sounds like bunch of BS to me.

Is Pagerank overrated? Yes it is!

Is Pagerank overrated?

The quick answer is yes. Pagerank is only a statistic that says you rank high on Google’s search engine algorithm.

Instead of Pagerank, you should really focus on web traffic.

Why?

Web traffic is what makes you money, not pagerank. Pagerank can be bought using text links and whatnot to artificially boost your PR high but boosting your PR won’t give you the web traffic. Getting more web traffic gives you more web traffic.

Can you prove that?

Yes, I can prove it. There’s websites out there with PR6 or PR7, yet their web traffic is so little, it won’t even show up on Alexa. I have blogs that have no Pagerank, yet they get decent amount of traffic. (Around 1,000 uniques)

Through experience of running many niche blogs (some horribly failed and some decent), I have found that Pagerank only serves a purpose of ranking your site when you have “competition”. That is, let’s say you are trying to show up #1 on Google organic results for “baseball caps”. Now, if your site has a higher PR than others, you are more likely to show up first for “baseball caps”. But that doesn’t mean you will get lots of traffic, especially if no one searches “baseball caps”.

Instead, what you need to do is sought out blue oceans of SEO, those keywords that either still have no meaning to the Google search engine, or it’s still very uncompetitive.

For example, my tech blog Zedomax.com is PR4 but gets more traffic than a lot of PR5 blogs. Pagerank is overrated.

Pagerank can be cheated, web traffic cannot. Web traffic is only based on your content and how that content fares among your competition, or other content that’s similar to that. Of course, PR has everything to do with how well that ranks on Google but if you have a LOT of content, you will still get decent traffic even if your site shows up on the 2nd page.

So what am I saying?

You need to focus on web traffic. If you have a LOT of great content, people will naturally link to you and you will get the SEO too as a bonus. It should always be a lot of content, then SEO, not the other way around.

A lot of SEO specialists focus on making a static Web 1.0 site then SEO marketing the crap out of it, only to end up with high Pagerank but no real web traffic.

Of course, if you can get some A-list blogs to link to you somehow, that’s going to be great for web traffic and SEO but remember this, it’s simply not respectable to buy or sell links. Buying or selling links for artificial Pagerank growth is really a dirty practice in my mind. You should “earn” your right to be on the first page of Google through the old, hard way of writing good content and letting people link to it if they like it.

Well, that’s my 2 cents on SEO today, do I feel more honorable now?

Yes, your honesty will pay off in the long run but cheating will only hurt you in the end.

It’s just like school, people who know the “stuff” will outlast the people who cheat during tests.

But if you must insist on selling and buying links, go ahead, just don’t get caught.

Adding Link Units can boost your Adsense income up to 30%!

Okay, I have been guilty of making even more money with Google Adsense than ever by implementing Link Units within the content as shown above.

Basically, Google lets you have up to 3 “regular” ads and 3 “link units”.

Now, I used to put the 728×15 link units at the top of the website. I still do, but I found even a better way to monetize the link units.

Here’s how to do it:

1. You need to put the link unit ads within your content. You can see an example here.

2. You need some custom programming as no Wordpress plugin will do this. (I wrote the code so…)

Here’s the code you need to replace “the_content()” function in your single.php and index.php files. (Some themes use theloop.php instead)

$content = apply_filters(‘the_content’, $post->post_content); $save = explode(“ ”, $content); $tcount=0; $adon=0; foreach($save as $item) { echo $item; if(preg_match(‘/img /’,$item)==0 && $tcount>=0 && $adon==0) { $adon=1; ?> [Google Adsense Code HERE!] } if(preg_match(‘/img /’,$item)==0 && $tcount>=4 && $adon==1) { $adon=2; ?> [Google Adsense Code HERE!] } $tcount++; } ?>


Make sure the change “[Google Adsense Code HERE!]” with your actual adsense code.
Basically this code “avoids” ads where there’s an image.  You can change the values of $tcount which is variable for the number of sentences before printing.  (The first $tcount is set to 0 and $tcount to 4 here so your link unit ad shows up on the first sentence and 4th.  If there’s less than 4 sentences, the link unit won’t show up to make it look clean.)
Now the great part about this code is that I used DIV html code to make the link unit ad go within your content.

3. Watch as the link unit ads make more money than ads on the bottom or right of the content.
For each link unit added to your content, you can expect about 10% increase in revenue.  Now, if you had 3 of these link units, that’s about extra 30% revenue you didn’t expect before.
The reason I tried this link unit ad was actually because I was losing money on some of my blogs for some reason and I had to make it up.
The good news is that the blogs I was losing money on came back after 2 weeks so now I am making about 20% more on all my blogs through this method.
A lot of people put these link unit ads on their sidebar or as part of 125×125 pixel ads.  Don’t do that as you will not get many clicks.  The best way is to put it within the content so people notice them.
These link units are also great because they don’t take up much space either.  I use the smallest ones, 120×90 pixels and they work the best.
Now, if you have not link unit ads on your site (at least 1 or 2 of them!), you need to do so and start making more money.
Of course, if your web traffic is still under 1000 uniques per day, you need to get more traffic first.  (duh!)

Writing great blog post that captures your audience probably has everything to do with your success to make money online.
Why?
Great content will always attract humans, search engines, and anyone who is interested in that information.
How do I write a blog post and capture my audience?
Well, there are numerous ways to do it but I can share you my strategy to this.
For me, I focus on satirical, humorous writing that will make the reader laugh.
Why?
The world is full of great information.  Especially the internet, you can go to 10 different blogs for the same information.
To have a competitive edge, you need to differ from your fellow bloggers.
Let me ask you a question.  Would you rather read a boring, monotonous blog post or a funny, interesting blog post?
Of course, most people would favor the latter.
Now, you need to write each blog post with a topic in your mind that is so worth reading and worth the reader’s time.
Let’s take an example.
I write a tech blog over at Zedomax.com.  Now, there’s so many thousand tech blogs out there, and most of the sites cover what everyone else covers.
To differentiate, I only pick the most interesting gadgets, DIYs, and tech news with emphasis on anything that I can make a joke out of.
The big blogs like Engadget and Gizmodo both cover every inch of tech news including which Sony execs had for breakfast.
Basically, I am the human, humorous, interesting comedian-filter for those big blogs while inputting some of my own niche topics.
Again, the world doesn’t need more MBA graduates to write long and boring blog posts that might be very accurate but still very boring.
What the world needs is simply writers who can describe an event in couple sentences with ability to make someone laugh.
Well, this blog post might have been very long and boring, perhaps I am a hypocrite.  Fuc*.

The Best Niche Market for Adsense Ads!

The best niche market I have found for Adsense ads really are the local niche markets.
What do I mean by “local” niche markets?
These are regionalized, localized markets that have an audience of one city, one county, or in other words, a small audience.
Why would you benefit from such a small market?
Well, it’s really common sense.  Because the audience is so small, your click rate skyrockets.
What is a “local” niche market?
Well, the “best” Adsense performer blog that I have is SFOneOfAKind.com.  It’s a blog about luxury real estate in San Francisco.
I cannot tell you more details than it’s the best performer as far as CPC (Cost per Click) is concerned.
It’s actually one of my “dead” blogs that I’ve began to monetize and blog as of lately.
There are tons of other “local” niche markets you can find such as “New York City Automobile Blog” or “Los Angeles Best Restaurant Blog”.
These are niche blogs that cater to only a very small portion of the internet audience.
Because the audience is so small, there’s more competition among the advertisers so in return, you the publisher can expect higher CPC.
Of course, this isn’t the case for everything, it’s always best to rely on trial and error.
Do you have a “local” niche market?
These local, niche market maybe the undiscovered gems among niche blogs and you my friend, just been told of another Adsense secret.
Now, go take your medicine and make a couple local, niche blogs to try it out yourself.

Understanding Your Audience – How to Write a Blog Post!

Now, if you have been blogging for awhile now, you probably understand that majority of your readers are people who use simple English.
What do I mean?
Well, on all my blogs, more than 30-50% of my traffic comes from international countries other than English speaking countries.
Why is this?
Well, people from those international countries who can speak/read English, are very interested in English written blogs.  But do not assume that those audience can understand your perfect, complex English.
How do I write a blog post?
You need to simply 5 sentences to 1 sentence.  You need to use words that even a 4th grader can understand.
In other words, write short and simple, while taking the trouble not to use big words such as “eponymous”, “advocate”, or any words that might usually be used on an SAT exam but not in real life.
Sure, you are a professor and you need to use big words but do understand if people in the world can’t understand you, you won’t be very popular.
If you are trying to make money online, keep it simpler.  If you are simply blogging for fun, ignore anything I say in this blog.
A lot of the bigger blogs out there “are” targetting English users only but you can differ and get more readership through using simple words and sentences.
Even for me, English is second language, and I can understand that it’s frustrating to look up the dictionary when I don’t understand a word.  (Of course, I SHOULD look up the dictionary but we are not blogging to educate people, we are blogging to provide good information, FAST!)
Do you know why there are so many 13 year olds who blog nowdays and are more successful than most 20 year olds?
Answer is simple.  People in general (as in the Internet population), cannot understand college-level English as they come from all over the world.
Heck, next time you read some of the comments in your blog and you will see that a lot of your readers cannot even write correct English.
Do not worry as this is great if you can get your message across.  Just stay away from becoming an English teacher and do use simpler words.
If you don’t believe me, take a look at icanhascheezburger.com, even their domain name is spelled wrong.  (Btw, the blog grew from nothing to like top 100 within less than a year!)

Optimizing Ads through Analysis – Impressions versus Clicks

Optimizing ads require the publisher to put great emphasis on analyzing his/her data daily until maximum ROI are reached.
How to go about it?
Well, to put it real simple, you need to place your ads in different locations with different ad sizes for 1-2 days each and find out which position and which ad gives you the highest payout per click.
Work with Clicks than Impressions 
Getting lots of impressions can be great for earning some money with Adsense if you are getting over 100K impressions per day.  Otherwise, those impressions do not convert to cash and you need to find a good ad position that will make your readers read the ads and click if it is interesting.
For example, you can have a site with 1,000 impressions per day.  At best, 1,000 impressions equal less than a dollar.
On the other hand, let’s say you get 20 clicks out of those 1,000 impressions AND you get paid 50 cents per click, that’s almost $10 in click profits for the day.
You just made $10 over $1, a 10 times difference between trying to make money with impressions vs. clicks.
The easiest way to optimize your website is to study other successful websites with a similar theme and check out where they placed their ads.
Usually, the biggest money making sites will also have their ads placed where they’d make more money, thus where people would click the most.
Conclusion
Clicks = CASH
Impressions = BullShit
Well, I hope that helped you and I will try to update this blog daily from now on.  I have been so busy golfing and didn’t have time to blog but let me see if I can start multi-tasking too.

Selling Links using TNX or TLA

I highly recommend you do not use TNX or TLA to sell links.  These are only cheap and fast way to get your blog’s pagerank.  You might make some money but that will never compare to the money you make selling private ads.
I guess it’s really a choice of the blogger but selling links is like selling off your reputation.
Why?
Well, search engine is built to find the most relevant information.  Selling/Buying links really are black-hat methods although there’s no clear definition to that yet.
Technology is moving so fast and all you can do is sell links to make couple quick bucks?
If money is really the problem here, I really suggest you to stick some Adsense ads in front of your content before selling links.
Eventually, all the link selling companies will go out of business and all the links you’ve bought will become useless.  It’s a painfully hidden secret that TNX and TLA does not want you to know.
Why even bother with drugs (TNX or TLA) when you don’t need it?
Stick with white-hat methods, even selling reviews on your blog might hurt you.

Blend your Adsense Ads with your Blog Theme!

Okay, Missy over at Groovyvegetarian is my friend and I am not picking on her but here’s what she’s doing wrong:

Now, as you can see, she has a 468×60 ad when you go to the homepage and she has a 336×380 ads on single pages like here:

Now, here’s two things she can do to make a lot more money with Adsense and optimize her ads.
1.  She needs to put a 336×380 ad OR TWO 250×250 ads side-by-side for her homepage.
2.  The ads are still in default Google colors, she need to change the colors so it blends into the mild red she uses for her AHREF colors.
With the two changes, I am sure that she will get 2-3 times more clicks.
With so many people used to being “ad-blind” as they call it, if you make your ads look like Google ads, no one will click and no one will be interested in it.
By blending your ad colors into your blog theme, you can expect 2-3 times more clicks, thus 2-3 times more revenue.
Sounds like a simple idea but it works.
So if you are still using default Google ad colors, I highly you change that.  (that means you Missy!)

Inside Google’s Advertisers’ Auctions

Here’s a great explanation of how Google’s Adsense and Adwords advertising/publishing program works.
Basically, there’s an internal auction of all keywords and advertisers get to bid on them.  So the CPC is really determined by advertisers.
Now, it’s up to you to find out which Publisher’s program gives you the best CPC for your money.
But how do they actually work? There are several steps in the process.
1) Each advertiser enters a list of keywords, ads, and bids.
2) When a user enters a query, Google compiles a list of all the ads whose keywords match that query.
3) The list of ads is then ordered based on the bids and the Ad Quality Scores, which measure the relevance of the ad to the user.
4) The highest ranked ad is displayed in the most prominent position, the second highest ranked ad gets the second most prominent position, and so on.
5) If the user clicks on an ad, the advertiser is charged a price that depends on the bid and Quality Score of the advertiser below it. The price charged is the minimum necessary to retain the advertiser’s position in the list.

Well, I admit that I have been testing out Yahoo Publishers program in the last couple days.
Yahoo Publishers Program is basically Adsense from Yahoo.  It launches about a year and half ago and it’s been steadily growing in number of advertisers and publishers.
Zack Johnson even made over $400K in just couple months.
But that’s not the point of this blog post.
The point is that I did a test with Zedomax.com and have found that:
1) Google Adsense provides better context-matched ads, meaning more people will click on your ads because they are more relevant.
2) Yahoo provides better payouts per click.  (This might vary but for tech, this proved to be true)
3) You need to try both and test out to see which program gives you a better payout at the end of the day.


In conclusion, I am making 2-3 times more money now with Yahoo Publisher Program for Zedomax.com.
Why?
Because certain niche topics get better payouts with the Yahoo Publisher Program.  For Zedomax.com, I actually get only 60-70% of clicks compared to Google Adsense, yet Cost-per-Click is about 3 times higher, so I end up making 2-3 times more money at the end of the day.
But I think this will only work if you are already getting a high number of clicks.  If you are getting less than 10 clicks per day, you might not see as a big differece.
If you do get more than 10 clicks per day, I highly suggest you try them out.
I haven’t tested all the blogs so I might start doing that one by one and see how well it does for my other blogs.
Remember not to put Google ads and Yahoo ads on the same page, that’s against the ToS.  However, you can put them in “different” pages and see how they perform.

Which AdSense Ad Sizes are the Best Performing?

Well, I’ve been doing some testing lately and also analyzing different sites for which AdSense sizes perform the best.
In all, it turns out verticals and horizontals perform the worst.
The best performing ad sizes are the rectangles.
I also did a test with which rectangles perform the best.
The bigger your rectanges, the better they perform.
336×280 pixel rectangles outperformed every other sizes by 3-5 times.
I told you before to put the ads on top of your content.  Now, if you are not using rectangle sizes, you are not taking advantage.
The rectangles can be a little bit annoying for your readers but heck, you need to make money blogging.  If you have great content, you really need to take advantage, readers will still come if you have a lot of ads.
Try the rectangles, especially the big ones, I bet you will make 2-3 times more if you have not been using them.
Of course, there can be variations, but with the 10 blogs I tested, results always came out the same.

AdSense for search now powered by Custom Search and Make Money by Replacing Your Search Function!

Well, AdSense search is now getting better as it’s going to be powered by custom search.
What does this mean?
Basically, AdSense search will use a custom search engine to index your sites better if you are using Adsense search on your site to make money.
Before, AdSense search was based on the same search engine as Google, meaning if some of your pages were not indexed in Google, it wouldn’t show up on your AdSense search results.
I have actually tested this over at Zedomax.com and found my AdSense search is now more accurate than before.  This doesn’t help you get indexed better on Google but it does allow you more incentive to replace your blog search function with the AdSense search function.
Great stuff, I will have to add it to this blog too.
If you want to make couple bucks off blog search, I highly suggest you replace your exisiting blog search function with an AdSense search.  You also get the power of Google on your site with custom indexing now so there’s nothing to lose…

SEO HACK – Don’t Buy WordPress Affiliate Pro, just get the Link A Dink Plugin

I just stumbled onto John Cow’s blog while stumbling through some sites on EntreCard, then stumbled onto CashQuests.  I bought this WordPress Affiliate Pro plugin which allows you to changes any keyword in your blog post to an affiliate link.  I originally bought it so I could link some of my target keywords to certain blogs for SEO and whatnot.  But it turns out the WordPress Affiliate Pro only let’s you link in the format of,”http://zedomax.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/wp-affiliate-pro.php?id=5″.  How dumb is that?  I paid $100 for something that links their text!  (They are linking “wp-affiliate-pro”)
I couldn’t even change the WordPress Affiliate Pro either because the source code is encrypted so you can even change it.
I paid a fair $100 for this crappy plugin and now I find out there’s Link A Dink Plugin.
(Yes, I’d like my money back since I spent $100 on something very unuseful.)
You might wonder, what does this plugin do?  Basically you can replace all keywords in your blog posts to whatever link you want so you can link up whole bunch of affiliate links and monetize your blog from your OLDER blog posts and new ones.  I am sure any one blogger has a Google search term that keeps bringin’ traffic.  Use this plugin and link it to your affiliate links.  Don’t know what an affiliate is?  Go sign up for an account at CJ.com.
Here’s the info you need:
On the bright side, now I got a plugin that I can actually use for SEO AND the source code so I can modify it, not that I’d need to.
This plugin replaces words in your posts with anything you want. I use it to replace words with links. For example, if you see my sister’s name, Ashley, anywhere on the site, it will link to a picture of her.
Upload it, install it, then go into the Link A Dink settings page in your Options.
Alright cool.

Paid-Wikis – Future of Making Money Online?

Recently, Zedomax Network has launched two paid Wiki sites, OneBuckWiki.com and FiveDollarWiki.com.
Within 1 week, OneBuckWiki sold over 800 pages (over $800) and FiveDollarWiki has sold over 70 pages ($350).
These paid-wikis might be the future for making money online.
As is the case as we have predicted, we bought bunch of dollarwiki names.  Even when we try to buy them, we noticed a lot of these dollarwiki names were taken.
That’s $1150 for 1 week since its launch.  We have never seen such a money maker and you might still be able to make one without flooding the market as there are plenty clients who are willing to invest couple bucks for paid-wikis.
There’s some buzz that Zedomax Network might start selling ready-made paid-Wiki sites but time will tell whether this is a good idea for the network or not…

OneBuckWiki was just launched yesterday.  We’ve sold almost 22 pages within 24 hours of the launch.
The money making wikis are in now.  These will spawn like blogs there are out there today.  Maybe someone can make a WikiNorati?

Affiliate for Poker at Chipleader.com no more!

Remember I said I’d try the affiliate programm at Chipleader.com?  Well, I’ve gave up as I’ve found that there’s too many poker spam, which could get me in trouble with the search engines down the road.  Plus, Chipleader does not provide CASH, they give you player money which I am bound to waste it away on their Blackjack games.
The major thing I found was that it was virtually impossible to sign up for their affiliate program.  You have to sign up as a player before you can even sign up as an affiliate.  Go figure…time to move on to something simple and easy. :p
