A lot of times, I will spend hours on a DIY blog post and someone will have the nerve to leave a comment like, “For godsakes, why do you need to build that?”.

Before, I used to get very upset and would spend hours on explaining why you would need something like a GPS Twittering device.  This would go on like mad as the pessimists are obviously getting some entertainment out of this.

Of course, I am getting older now, almost hitting 30.  In short, I do feel that my age has gotten me wiser and there’s a more, positive answer to negative questions such as “Why in the hell would you do that?” or “Why in the hell would you need that?”

Today, I figured that out, it’s very simple.

Why not?

I believe pessimists tend to ask “why” questions a lot whereas optimists like myself answer them simply with “why not”.

“Why not” is actually a question that has probably sparkled most of our technologically advanced innovations in the last 20 years or so.

Inventors and scientists constantly ask themselves “why not try this?” and a lot of times, they will stumble on a new solution that will solve mankind’s problems.

I am sure even Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, asked himself at one point, “Why not try using electricity to power a string?”.  Which is “why” we now have light bulbs today.

Btw, light bulbs also now symbolize “ideas“.

Next time your boss ask you “why” the hell you are working on some new projects, you should try answering them with “why not?“  If they cannot answer that with at least 10 reasons, then obviously you are doing something right and you should keep doing it.

If your friends ask you “why” you are doing something so stupid, answer them with “why not”?

Not only you throw back the question to the pessimists, you will inevitably get the answers you need on why you need to keep doing what you are doing.  Which most of the time, will only be great positive feedback for your mind, which is what you need to keep going.

Let the pessimists get all crazy in the head thinking “why” they even asked such a stupid question.
