New Adsense and Chitika Optimization Heat Map Version 2!

As you know, I did provide my high CTR, high EPC heat map for integrating Adsense and Chitika into your blog/website.  Well, after much thought, I have actually removed half of my main ads while increasing CTR and EPC altogether.

So without delay, here’s the new simplified version of the heat map that will make you more money, while keeping it simpler and not so annoying to your readers with bombarded Adsense ads:

Now, you will notice that the right portion is empty on the top Google Adsense and the bottom too.

Please note that, this is actually the right way, you don’t want to put your ads in the center or to the right.

99% of people tend to read left-to-right, top-to-bottom, the best Adsense placements are always going to be near your top-left of the blog/website.

From design standpoint, having the empty space might feel like you need to add something.  (Well, you can, just don’t bombarded with TWO Adsense ads, maybe affiliate ads might do good)

But with this new heatmap, my CTR and EPC has been going up because now people are bidding on less space for more money.  (Less Supply + More Demand = Higher CTR and EPC)

Now, I have heard that CTR isn’t directly correlated with EPC and that’s true BUT you have to remember the simply economy of “Supply & Demand“, which is a major part of how Adsense and Adwords market work.

The greatest part about this setup is that it makes the reader “focus” on just one Adsense ad without being confused with content.  After that, they can read all the content but the most important part is that we’ve eliminated bombarded ads with simple, more effective Adsense ads that’s going to be more friendly to your readers/visitors while increasing your CTR and EPC.

If you haven’t read my last post about “Less is More“, you will want to as it has everything to do with this new heatmap.

Enjoy~

Great point on the square adsense ads. In a design sense I would usually think to put a banner adsense ad but you’re right it’s probably going to be more effective to have something narrower and taller. I’ll just need to get over the unplanned excess whitespace! :)

@Women’s Clothing: Thanks, will do and update you on the best heatmap tested over experience and time.

@Terri: Yes, the excess whitespace is actually rather great I think for people to really “read” the ads. But I have filled them on some of my blogs with private ads, which still works pretty good. But just don’t put 2 next to each other, they really dilute your CTR and EPC.

@Amirul: Thanks for visitin’, yes, I am using the heatmap on this blog, I haven’t put the Chitika ads actually on this blog itself. (I don’t get much traffic to this blog itself, I just have it up for fun really. =) )

What do i have to say :D
    This is genius post :D
I accidentally get to this post from chitika blog and I immediately setup the 336×280 on my post, in between title and content.
Guess what, my adsense shoot from 2% to 5% :D
What I have to do now is to apply this 336×280 to all my blogs and website :D
    Thanks Max!

    * 336×280 works best with TEXT only.
    * What do you think about Chitika Linx?

  10. KC Says:

Oh ya.. Forgot to mention this.
Do you have any idea what to put on header?
I have a small logo and currently I’m setting a 728×90 beside the logo.
It performs as it doens’t exist -.-”

  11. max Says:

Lol, yes, that’s why this blog is for “insiders”.

The 336×280 works best with TEXT or TEXT/IMAGES based on my testing, using just IMAGES won’t work as well, you are right.

    300×250 works also great too.
I haven’t really gotten great results from Chitika Linx, I’ve gotten some good results with Chitika Minimalls too though.

Thanks for visitin’, I should have more insider tips so come back often, we can trade ideas. :)

  12. max Says:

Well, in my testing, a 728×90 and logo OR 468×60 and logo placed at the top of your website has never worked well. They are probably the worst performing ads for the best location. I don’t know why this is but I believe a lot of big sites do this simply because it “looks” good, not because it makes money. Hope that helps and probably better to not use anything too wide such as 728×90 or 468×60, I’ve never heard anyone making money using those sizes so far.
