Definition of Blogging - There are Different “Types” of Blogging!
One of the most important aspects of blogging is “how” you blog, there are different styles out there used by the top bloggers and the rest of the blogsphere. Let me go over in detail from the most content oriented to the most informative-oriented methods.
Blogging itself is a still a new type of websites that have not been clearly defined and in this post, I will try to clarify methods used by top bloggers and alike.
1) Original Content Oriented Blogging
Original content-oriented blogging involves you, the blogger, to write original content. Now, this maybe a blog about plastic surgery, unconventional marketing, etc…etc…
These types of blogs are great for super-niche topics that requires high level of knowledge, experience, and expertise.
For example, this blog itself is mostly original content-oriented blog since I write mostly from my head as it comes out the blog post via my keyboard via my fingers via my brain.
Original content blogs are actually the hardest to make money on unless you already have a big following or you happen to be the very first blogger in the world to start such a blog.
This can also be comparable to biographies in books or diaries/journals if you want to call it that.
2) Link Content Oriented Blogging
Link Content Oriented Blogging involves you, the blogger, to write original content WHILE linking to another blog post on the subject. This maybe be a blog about gadgets, technology, fashion, celebrity, etc…etc…
Most Top 10 blogs in the world use this method since it’s all about “sharing” each others information and blogging in general have power over other news sites since bloggers are linking to each other about the latest news.
For example, Makezine or Gizmodo is a Link content-oriented blogs since most of their content is made from other blogs/websites.
These types of blogs are the most useful to the readers who are searching for stuff in one place.
Let’s say you are an internet web surfer and you like MP3 players. You could go to each and every different MP3 manufacturer’s website and check out the MP3 players OR you can check out an MP3 Player blog that links to all the manufacturer’s websites so you save time.
On top of this, the reader can enjoy the latest reviews of the MP3 players on the market today, instead of searching through massive database of websites that provide boring product information.
In short, this is where the money is at, blogs that provide one location for the reader to find all the other links out there on the internet while providing useful tips and reviews.
In simple terms, think of as an human-edited directory of the internet, the Web 2.0 of internet directories.
Personally, I do both of these types of blogs but the Link Content Oriented Blogs always get more web traffic and make more money.
3) Splogs
One of the worst and annoying blogs are called splogs, where there’s NO original content whatsoever and the blogger uses automated rss fetching software to do auto blog posts.
Splogs are bad for web traffic, humans, and SEO. Don’t make a splog, if you do, you are the lowest scum in the blogsphere.
Okay, there you have the 2 main types of blogging plus splogs. I am sure there’s some blogs that use both methods but most blogs mainly consist of Type 1 or Type 2.
I hope this helped you understand the “blogging” world better and if you get a trackback from a splog, make sure to mark it “spam” on your Wordpress dashboard and help the world get rid of spam alltogether.
