Brand Marketing and How Obama Did It!

I have been reading a lot of books on marketing and branding, (the one I am reading now is Purple Cow by Seth Godin)

Anyways, I have been converting all my blogs into simpler approach, blog search engine instead of a regular, traditional blog.  Well, while I have thought of this through pure trial and error, I am realizing how important it is to keep you blog/website design simple while keeping it different from all the rest, thus a Purple Cow is born.

Well, I am beginning to realize how important brand marketing is and how it can help your blog attract more readers/visitors simply by doing less.  Also, I have to note that GoDaddy’s founder Bob Parson’s recent video on being positive has a profound effect on how I think about things.  (You have to listen to the part where he says to “do nothing” for 30 minutes a day.)

Less is more.

Well, I’d end it there but today’s topic is actually about how Obama used his brand marketing to stand apart from McCain in the late 2008 Presidential Election.

How?

Well, the one thing that comes to my mind when I think of Obama is “Vote For Change“.  This one message, I believe, has even dwelled into the minds of even the most conservative Republicans, who know that tax-breaks for rich people are great, but they still want the best for the country.

Obama became the President because those rich Republicans voted for him, they “saw” that Obama could “change” something while McCain didn’t have any type of brand marketing other than he is going to be a lot like Bush.

Apart from race and the fact that a lot of African Americans and minorities voted for Obama, I have to agree that Obama would have won if this was a business deal instead of a political war.

His brand marketing is absolutely amazing and that’s what he did, not all that other crap.

Obama got one message across to the people, “Vote For Change”, and that’s the only thing he did because with the overload of free information out there, people need simple stuff to solve complex problems.

Do I think Obama will do well to revitalize the U.S. economy?

Yes, partly because I can see that he’s a great brand marketer.  If he can re-build the “U.S.A.” brand into even more world-class brand, I don’t see why not that more countries will be trading with the U.S.

Brand marketing is everything I believe.  If you don’t believe me, go to Google.com, what do you see?

A big brand logo and a search bar to the firstcomer/first-time user.

Google had the best brand marketing for online search engines so far and if Yahoo/MSN copied the model, they’d too probably take more share of the “search” market.

Too bad, Yahoo and MSN are both too occupied with portals and services, which take attention away from people to “search”, where the most money is.

Well, I am partly getting off the subject here but I will be writing an E-book called, “Search”, to dive into the secrets of online brand marketing.  (It’s all theory but isn’t everything a theory at the start?)

Again, the next time you try to market your online service/blog/product or whatever, remember this:

Less is more.

Companies seem to ignore the single largest online branding/advertising venue available: their own regular external emails. Why not use these emails to market the senders company?

    You have a website.
    You send emails.

Why not multiply your sales-staff by “wrapping” the regular email in an interactive letterhead?

No other marketing or advertising medium is as targeted as an email between people that know each other (as opposed to mass emails). These emails are always read and typically kept.
