Blogging is a “Social Collaborative Effort”!
Well, today I was thinking of how blogging in general, is a “Social Collarborative Effort”.
What do I mean?
Well, let’s just say that you as a blogger, do not ever, never work alone.
As hard as it is to believe when you are running a niche blog without real “human to human” contact, blogging is about bloggers talking with each other.
Let’s say you run a tech blog covering gadgets and technology. Everyday, you will post at least 1 blog post linking to another tech blog about the latest gadget that was introduced by the XYZ company. Now, you just linked to another blog because that blog had the information.
Couple months later down the road, that blog you linked to links to you about another tech gadget you posted earlier than anyone else. Now, you just communicated to another blog without even talking to him/her.
The beauty of all this is that bloggers are actually helping each other find new information about their subject without any traditional e-mail, telephone, or whatever communication.
This is what I do on Zedomax.com
I basically look through every gadget/tech blog that has a quite a bit of following including Gizmodo, Engadget, Makezine, BoingBoing, BB Gadgets, and way more…
Here’s a look at my Google RSS Reader for a sec here:
There’s so many new tech gadgets introduced daily, the amount of stuff you can blog about and amount of new blogs you find are overwhelming.
This process of finding new stories from other blogs and linking to it is the very basis core of blogging. Well, I do mean blogging “big” like trying to make a lot of money with a blog.
The more you link, the better it is since you are writing something genuinely interesting, humorous for visitors to read about.
Again, blogging is a social collaborative effort where bloggers link to themselves crazy until it becomes the best possible source of new information than any other traditional media.
This has everything to do with making money online and probably you will need to link often if not on every one of your blog posts to another blog.
Here’s an interesting excerpt from an interview with Mark Fraunfelder, the creator of BoingBoing:
There are a ton of blogs that do what Boing Boing does, but very few, if any, have done it as successfully. Is there something about Boing Boing that’s set it apart?
I think there’s a few things at play here. We did start pretty early on. January of 2000 is when Boing Boing was launched as a blog, though it had been online as a blog since 1995. It helps being one of the first. If you’re in there early and you get a lot of readers, you’re going to continue to get more readers, and newcomers awre going to have a hard time.
That was one thing, and another is that we’re all professional journalists. We’ve all written for place like the New York Times and major national magazines. We’re all pretty good at writing the nut graph, if we see a story online. So readers know that when they go to Boing Boing, they’re going to read these posts and really get something out of the posts themselves, rather than a lot of blog out there that will say something like, “This is amazing,” and then they force you to click on the link. We always try to make it so that, even if you read Boing Boing off-line, you’ll still be able to get some value out of it. If you really want to, you can click on the link to get the full story. And the final thing is the mix of the four of us. We have different but overlapping tastes, and it all mixes, and somehow has added up to this site that people find compelling enough to visit.
