How to Build SEO Authority with Outbound Links!

Well, a lot of people in the SEO industry try to only concentrate on links coming in but in my experience blogging for the last 2 years, outbound links are also very important, especially if you are Link Content Oriented Blogger.

For example, let’s say you’ve written a blog post about the latest medical gadget that can help the homeless to help themselves by wearing the gadget.  Well, rather than just writing the blog post with great content, you should link a lot to other “related” blog posts/websites. (3 or more)

If there are words in your blog posts that might be better understood if the reader went to Wikipedia, then link up those keywords to Wikipedia.

Google search engine only tries to best emulate how a real human being would search.  That being the case, you need to write your blog post with as many informative outbound links you can.  This isn’t a hack, it’s just common sense as a good writer.

Although I cannot prove this with words or any other statistics, it’s true that blog posts with more informative links going out will place higher on the search engine results than ones with no links but have great content.  I think I just picked up on this somehow, like everything else I learned about blogging.  But trust me, this is a great, respectable way for you to gain SEO without doing any behind-the-back link sales or whatnot.

There, I just linked 2 to Wikipedia and 1 to one of my previous blog posts.  Even me, I forget to do this.

So next time you write a blog post, see if you can get more outbound links on it too that are related, I bet your blog post will show up higher on the search engine results.

Think of it as “references” in a book.  The more references you can give Google, the more they will believe you since you’ve backed up your blog post with resources, and thus rank your blog post higher for the same topic. , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I have a mystery for you today. How on earth is this page a PR3?

    http://www.g34media.com/wordpress-blog-set-up-service/

I think the Google algorithm has recently gone nuts. I like to think im somewhat savvy with SEO, and with building links, etc.

But i don’t understand how a new blog with a few backlinks and no content can rank at 2, when an older more established blog that has loads of backlinks and content ranks at 1.

    examples:
    http://www.InsideWinona.com (pr 2)
    http://www.groovychicago.com (pr 1)

What do you think of this? Can you tell me what tools you use to figure out why something ranks the way it does.

  2. Missy Says:

Is it because i linked to Wordpress.org in the post? A pr site.

I also have 5 links scattered throughout that post, all leading back to either my About page or my Contact page. Is this contributing to the PR 3 status?

  3. Missy Says:

Wordpress.org is a PR9 site. Hmmn, i wonder if this is why. If so, i need to to link out to Wordpress a whole lot more on my (Groovy Veg) blog. LoL.

    Let me know your thoughts.

  4. max Says:

Well, I don’t use any tools to figure the PR thing out, but I think you can benefit from making sure you have Technorati tagging and maybe you need to add rel=”nofollow” to any links that go out, even such as your wordpress theme link at bottom.

You really need to minimize the number of links going out with use of “nofollow” and try to link to those blogs with higher PR blogs.

Also, I notice that your blog doesn’t get updated as much often, you really need to post at least 1 blog post per day in order to really gain in SEO.

    Well, that’s my 2 cents.

As far as PR with no content, that’s not that important I think.

  5. max Says:

Again, I think your g34media.com simply needs more blog posts. Although there’s not much about SEO and content, I believe your PR is highly correlated with number of blog posts you do. Pagerank isn’t so important as much as content. If you have lots of content, PR will automatically come with it and you will also get loads of search engine traffic even if you PR is zero.

Take a look at http://onearthtravel.com, it has PR 0 yet gets 500 uniques per day.

  6. max Says:

Well, I think related outbound links are good, you shouldn’t necessarily link to a high PR site but sites that have relevant information to your blog post, pretty much what you have been doing on Keetsa, just apply it to all the other blogs. :)

You might also want to try creating a blog network with RSS feeds at the bottom of your blogs (not on the sidebar, it’s not searchable there), this can help your SEO a lot, now don’t tell anyone, shhhh….

nice theme. Download from wordpress.org? Can you tell me download link.Thank you.

  10. العاب فلاش Says:

Yes for sure, It’s good to put outbound links in your site to good sites and this will help your site, but if you put links to bad sites like spam sites this will make a damage to yours site.

  11. max Says:

Right, you don’t want to link out to spam sites, make sure you always check Pagerank tool if a site looks suspicious. If it’s PR0, that’s a highly suspect.
