In this blog post, I will show you how to “time” blog posts using Google Trends to get a good share of traffic during those holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, New Years, etc…etc…

Above is a chart of term “Halloween” and it’s search volume over the period of last 5 years. (You can see it on Google Trends here)
Regardless of what “topic” your blog is about, you can take advantage of these “massive” traffic sprouts that occur on American holidays. (or any other “events” of the world)
As an example, I started researching which keywords would have the most volume out of all the relevant Halloween keywords and found that “Halloween Costume Ideas” would be a good target keyword to go for.
So, I started posting all type of Halloween Costume Ideas on my tech blog Zedomax.com about a month before the holidays. Of course, the result was that I had few extra visits but not much results.
Well, it turns out that I had also done “Weird” Halloween Costumes blog posts over at our weird blog DeClubz.com. (This site is actually what Keetsa was going to be named, one of the logo candidates. Since it no longer was needed, I simply used the domain name for a new blog. I had this domain name registered for 3 years so why not?)
Anyways, the result was that DeClubz.com now show up on the first page of Google for the term “weird halloween costumes” and I though that was really “weird”. From that, I have been receiving a good 200-300 traffic everyday and continuing to grow until Halloween the end of this month. (The Peak hasn’t hit yet as you can see in the Google Trends graph above)
The point of the story?
Well, whatever your blog is about, let’s say a Business Blog, you can write about “Business Halloween Costumes” and take advantage of the holiday traffic spike.
The fact is that there’s a HUGE increase in how many people search for Halloween-related stuff as we near the holiday. If you can even take 0.00001% of this traffic, that could equal 200-300 extra unique visitors for your blog.
That’s simply what I did and you can too by simply writing about Halloween but you need to add that “niche” topic, you can simply go for “Halloween Costumes” as that’s too competitive.
Here’s some ideas for your blogs:
Music Blog - Music related Halloween Costumes such as “Rapper Halloween Costumes” would be good.
Food Blog - You can feature blog posts about the Top 10 Food Halloween Costumes”.
Golf Blog - You can feature a blog posts about “Pro Golfer Halloween Costumes”.
The great part is that this isn’t a hack or anything, it’s just common sense and it’s great for your blog readers to read about “current events” while providing an idea for their Halloween costume this year, related with your blog.
Since your blog is already highly “niche”, for example, a Golf Blog, you are going to show up near the first page of Google when you write about “Golf Halloween Costumes”.
Well, there’s still about 9 days to go before Halloween so if you haven’t written anything about Halloween on your blog, go do it as you this might actually the best time before the traffic spike.
The Greatest Part
Now, the greatest part about writing such Halloween-related blog posts is that your effort isn’t all about just this year. Next year, your blog posts written this year will get traffic plus the new ones you post next year.
Call it a “snowball” effect if you want. But I just told you, one of the simplest ways to increase your blog traffic by writing great content, just title it right. This is also where to money is too, the more search traffic you get, the better chance that those visitors will click your Adsense ads.
